Pete the Cat I Love my White Shoes

One of my favourite little friends is turning five very soon! Her mum asked me to make her a felt story and gave me a few options. I picked "Pete the Cat I Love my White Shoes" By Eric Litwin because she had learned it at school and knew the song to go with it.
Once again, I tried to make it look as true to the book as possible.

I really like that one muddy shoe.

Five Little Dinosaurs

This is a finger puppet play that can double as a felt story if you feel so inclined.

I like different coloured dinosaurs.

Five Little Ducks

A laminate story of Five Little Ducks using ducks that the kids will see where they live!

They're very light. Next time I'll use acrylic paint instead of water colours.
Eh, you live and you learn.

Slippery Fish

These are made out of foam so I can put them on my feltboard (with velcro) or my whiteboard (with magnets) but I also like just giving them to the children, if there is enough to go around. We all switch with everyone so we all get different fish/mammals each time.
Ignore my bent octopus because my shark kinda looks like Robert DeNiro in Shark Tale.

The Unicorn

I grew up with the Irish Rovers and the Unicorn was my favourite song! The girls I nanny love it too so I wanted to make it a felt story. It was my first big one and I had to present it in front of the class. It went pretty well apart from me forgetting the ending because that`s what happens when I sing in front of adults.
I`m really proud of those alligators.

Five Baby Robins

Five baby robins watch Daddy Robin soar;
One baby leaves the nest, and now there are four.
Four baby robins, high up in a tree;
One flies to catch a worm, and now there are three.
 Three baby robins had nothing to do;
One tried his new-found wing, and then there were 2.
Two baby robins frolicked in the sun;
Another robin chased a bug, and then there was one.
 One baby robin, left all alone;
And this baby robin decided to stay home!

I had help with this one. I was literally doing about five things at once and asked my graphic designer best friend to draw me some robins and then we painted them together. I did the tree. I could potentially add more items or turn these into finger puppets but I think simple is good.

Narcissus and Echo

I am a big history nerd and I love the idea of somehow teaching it to young children in fun ways. I actually have an Ancient Greece theme all planned out to use one day. Part of that would be telling Greek Myths. I figured one of the easiest (and most fun) story to do would be of Narcissus and Echo.

I decided to do silhouettes and to do them in foam because I like working with foam. I'd intro with these pieces explaining how vain Narcissus is and how Echo was in love with him. Then go into the whole rejection thing and how she was so upset she lived in a cave and eventually faded into the dark, cursed with only being able to repeat what others said.
And Narcissus saw his own reflection and fell in love. (Fun fact: When I was making this my teacher came up and asked why I was making playboy dollies.)

And then Narcissus got turned into a flower and lived by his reflection forever. We named the flower after him. The end.

Of course this can lead into fun with science with learning about echos or into more Ancient Greece!
